Information about the Open Door Theater Audition Process
Our main goal for your audition experience at Open Door Theater is for you to have a good time and a positive experience. Now breathe and SMILE!
Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your scheduled audition time. If you are a minor, please bring a parent or guardian with you. You will not be permitted to audition unless you and your guardian have read, understood the contractual commitment and signed the contract.
After you are registered, we will take your photo for our casting purposes and assign you to an audition group of 8 to 12 people along with an experienced group leader.
As a group you will go through 3 preparation steps (about 20 minutes each). You will learn a portion of a song, a small dance routine, and you will work with 1 or 2 other people to prepare a small scripted reading. Then, as a group, you will perform the song, dance, and reading in front of the audition committee. At this time, people that have prepared solo songs in order to audition for a specific role will perform that song instead and/or dancers looking for dance roles, may be asked to perform additional combinations as well.
We often do not have call backs and have many auditioners so please be patient with us. We call everyone who auditions with their results usually by the Sunday after auditions.
If you have any access needs for auditions, i.e. an ASL interpreter, elevator, etc. Please let us know when registering.
